Volunteering - bridging the divide between business and charity sectors

We know that many businesses and public sector organisation want to support charities with 1-3 days of volunteering. Surrey Youth Focus has 80 member charities many of which would benefit hugely from business volunteers, but don’t understand what is on offer or how to think differently to take advantage of this great resource. This is the divide that needs bridging. If you have an interest in a particular charity or sector could you be the “ambassador” that helps build this bridge? It would involve some desk research followed by a phone conference or face-to-face meeting. We’ll do the introductions. You would find out about the charity, understand its needs and help identify and articulate these so that we can share them with other business volunteers via Communilab. Many SYF members are achieving great things with very limited resources and often their biggest need is manpower. They quite likely perceive volunteering as one-day practical work or long-term regular commitments. With your business background you can help them explore other options to make the most of the offers that are coming from local companies. Let’s move employer-supported volunteering on from painting fences, let’s build bridges!
